Salty Boat Studio jewelry is made with natural and lab-created gemstones and genuine silver and gold. To make sure your jewelry lasts you a lifetime, please:

- Remove jewelry before entering water. Especially chlorine swimming pools and mineral hot springs. This will surely damage/tarnish your jewelry!

- Avoid contact with lotions, cosmetics, and cleaning products. These can cause discoloration and corrosion over time. 

- Be careful not to snag or drop your jewelry.

- When not in use, make sure your jewelry is clean and dry and stored in a cool and dry place slow the effects of tarnishing. Please do not keep your jewelry in the bathroom as the humidity will speed up tarnishing. 

However, don't be turned off by tarnish! It means your silver is genuine. Silver cleaning products and jewelry polishing cloths are affordable and readily available online or even at hardware and grocery stores. These can keep your silver jewelry bright and shiny. Just beware of getting the polish onto the gemstones.

Many gemstones such as opals and moonstones are fragile and need to be worn with extra care to prevent scratches or fractures. Turquoise and opals are porous and will absorb water and other liquids (even the oils naturally found on your skin!). This can cause the color of the gems to change over time. 

That being said, since I myself live an active lifestyle, Salty Boat pieces are made to withstand day-to-day life. Most of Salty Boat jewelry can be worn everyday and the occasional hand wash or dip in the ocean won't affect the durability of the piece.
